Reflections on the day
Kate and I went to high school together. We were in the same hip-hop team and even won nationals, so being asked to photograph her wedding all these years later meant a lot.
The morning started with a phone call nobody wants on a wedding day. Their videographer had a medical emergency and couldn’t make it. Thankfully, James from Captured by Karrots stepped in at very short notice, and we had such a good day working together.
Despite everything happening behind the scenes, Kate was incredibly calm. She and Joe were relaxed, happy and so easy to be around, and their guests were exactly the same.
They married in a beautiful Melbourne church before celebrating at The Royce. When rain and city traffic ruled out our photo spots, we changed direction and kept going. Joe and Kate trusted me completely, so they could just enjoy their day.
Photographing someone I once danced beside as she married her favourite person was a pretty special full-circle moment.
